Avengers Infinity War

Forgot to make a post about seeing this film, so here goes.

WARNING! - I may write something spoiler-y. I'll try not to go into details or specifics, but just in case you don't want to hear anything related to the film, just in case, turn away now.

When Infinity War came out, I put myself on a social media hiatus to avoid any sort of spoilers that may be posted. But the hype was fierce. I was panicking, reading stories of sold out cinema tickets, and was worried that going to see it on the Saturday morning would be impossible. That we would be queuing out the cinema in a line that went on for miles, only to be told that there wasn't any seats available until the afternoon. Wednesday afternoon...

But all that worry was for nothing, as there were ample seats in our local cinema. I guess it's not as crazy as American cinemas, or maybe everyone were just not early risers.

And so, on to the movie...

It was EPIC!

That word gets thrown around a lot, but this film really does justify that moniker. It was great seeing all these characters coming together and interacting. Thanos was well developed, and looked great! The performance capture was really good, and you forgot he is this mammoth purple CG Titan, and just believe he is another actor in this film.

With a film as big as this, there was a worry it would feel rushed, or too much crammed in. True, the time flew by, but just because of how good it was! All the characters 'felt' like the characters from their respective films. There were good action scenes, although, the fight scenes weren't as good as Civil War, or as spectacular as Guardians of the Galaxy 2.

It was however, nice to be very surprised by this movie. With how often things are spoilt with set photos leaking, or critics posting anything spoilerific, I was amazed at how much I didn't really expect from the story. The way the film ends, wow!

And the after credits scene, actually feeling significant rather than just a throwaway...goosebumps.

Right now, I can't imagine where this story will go. I can throw up theories, but how do they top this? How do they make another two and a half hour epic like this to conclude this story? I haven't read any of the comics that inspired the movie, which, judging by some comments is a good thing as they do give away a lot of the shocking elements in this film, but the 2019 release is looking so so far away.

Avengers Assemble

Some cute Avengers fan-art.

Started as a sketch of Captain America while at a crafts fair while I was bored. Went to another crafts fair, and drew Iron Man and Thor. Then Hulk and Black Widow the next day. And so it ended up with this.

All traditional pencils. Didn't use any reference as I wasn't too picky about it.

Hope y'all like anyway.

Skurge II

THE CLASSIC MARVEL FIGURINE COLLECTION: Skurge early stage
After seeing some fantastic quick renders of the character, most of us on the blog thought it didn't look very dynamic and I thought there didn't feel like enough power in the stance. So I changed it up with him leaning on his axe, and lowered his face to make his glare look more intimidating. I also flared out the shoulder pads more and filled in other details.

Wiccan Edit

After another great update at the Classic Marvel Figurine Collection blog, we were presented with an excellent sculpt of Wiccan.

THE CLASSIC MARVEL FIGURINE COLLECTION: Day in the life of a CMFC drone...

A few of the bloggers there, myself included, thought he looked alot older than the teen in the comics.

So I broke down the sculpt, tracing it to get the contours, then worked on making the face younger. What makes the sculpt feel old is the large ears, longer than the nose, which is unusual. Also the square, long jaw line is also very mature and macho looking, while Wiccan is often portrayed as young, quite soft, feminine like features.

So narrowing his face and softening his jawline made him look younger, but it didnt look in proportion with his body now. So I looked into what made him look older. Again, he was very muscular, thick legs and arms and long in the torso and pelvis. So I made more changes to make his body look more fragile, like a teenager, yet to pile on the muscle of a filly grown hero.

Overall these are drastic changes that I cannot see happening, but I just wanted to see what I could do to change the sculpt into making it feel more like the character. I still feel the sculpt is really well done, but just wanted the drawing exercise really.

Avengers 3D poster

Saw this pic and thought it was really cool.
Would be nice to try achieving an image with this effect, may look into it.

Longshot

Saw some nice pose sketches on the Classic Marvel Figurine Collection blog of this character Longshot. http://marvel-figurines.blogspot.com/2011/08/just-quickie.html I felt this pose would make the best figurine, but the company went with a different pose. I thought I would draw up the thumbnail in detail to try and win them over.

Dene Mason's original thumbnail pose and my detailed lines.

Spider-Man Redesign

Project Rooftop are hosting a spider-man redesign contest. I may enter, I may not. A quick work doodle of a possible entry I may try with. Still got tweaking to do, but had to get it out of my head.

Great Odin's Raven!

The folks over at the Classic Marvel Figurine Collection posted an amazing preview sculpt of the upcoming Odin special. Check it out, its a gorgeous sculpt.

Inspired, and also bored, I played around in photoshop slapping some colours on top of the preview pictures to rough up what the figurine could look like painted. I think it looks pretty sweet, and makes me want the figurine even more.

Damn August/September wait.

226 - Kid America

Gah! Another Captain America sketch! This time, with added biro! Made him more kiddish with the proportions, and to further that idea, his 'a' on his forehead isn't a captial letter. Aww.

220 - NightCrawler

Just had a bit of fun with this design. I still regard the opening sequence in X-2 as one of the best intros to a film ever with NightCrawler kicking ass. I watched it, looked to my friend in a nod of awesomeness, and even texted my future girlfriend. It was just that damn cool.

219 - Captain America

So at comic con they release a ton of cool Marvel news, but we have yet to see Chris Evans in the Captain America costume. Will it be any good? Next comic con not only should they show a decent trailer but also Spider-Man with a bit of luck.

This is why I must go to San Diego or where it is held next year.

218 - Spider-Man

Yes! Spectacular Spider-Man! Finally I have done a decent sketch of him in this style. Its just his head, but its a start! Sketched from my ipod freezed on a frame. :)

217 - Galactus

Pretty happy with how ol purple helmet turned out. Its really a design which shouldnt work, and why they didnt do it in the movies...but in all honesty, it just does. Somehow.

216 - Magneto

Now there is a pattern emerging with these sketches that you may not know. They are all inspired by toys of the characters sitting on my desk. Its a good thing, as if I am stumped for things to draw, I look up, see a character, and get to work. :)

215 - Thing

Fantastic 4's Thing! I sketched this based off a Burger King movie toy I have on my desk in work, and realized a few things. Firstly...what a stupid idea giving a rock man boots. Impractical and just expensive and stupid looking. Secondly, poor Thing wouldnt be able to use MP3 players or ipods as he hasn't got ears.
Poor guy.
